I'm a Believer

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Have you heard of Moroccanoil? (Yes, it's all one word.) My hair stylist, who is also a close friend of mine, recommended it when I asked her what I could do to get the "oomph" back into my hair in between hair appointments since it was looking quite stringy and dull, lacking shine and strength. So I thought I'd give it a try. It's a "salon-only" product (but you can get it at Chatters Beauty Supply where I bought mine) so it was quite expensive at $47.00. The helpful and extremely knowledgeable sales person (is there such thing as a Hair Scientist because this girl was exactly that, I swear) picked out Moroccanoil Light Treatment for Blonde or Fine Hair for me. She explained that Moroccanoil is an Argan Oil blend that is rich in vitamins and natural elements that fortify the hair, improves its elasticity, moisturizes the strands and heals and relieves weak and brittle hair (in a nutshell). I put it to the test a couple of weeks ago after I got out of the shower. At first I thought it would be oily, and maybe even greasy but once I put it in my hair it was absorbed really quickly. I then blow dried my hair which, by the way, took less time than it usually does because Moroccanoil also reduces the drying time which means I can sleep in an extra five minutes ; ) and then straightened it. I was impressed at how shiny and healthy it looked and how soft it felt. The only downside to this product was that it smelled like a perfume a ninety year old Grandmother might wear, it was very strong and potent but the smell goes away once you dry your hair. I\ve been using it every time I get out of the shower now with the same great results. It's a bit pricey but it's worth it and you only have to use about the size of a quarter every time. You can learn more about Morroccanoil here. What hair products do you use before you blow dry your hair?

Happy Birthday to My Other Half!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I just wanted to wish  D. a very Happy Birthday! I love you : ) We celebrated this past weekend by going out for dinner with friends and then coming back to our place to play "Apples to Apples" and "Partini."  A couple of his (male) friends got him an ice cream cake complete with candles:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

(And a side of sour worms.) They said it was either this or the Jonas' Brother cake ; ) so I think D. was relieved to receive this one instead of having to eat Kevin Jonas's eyebrows, even though the "Old as Dirt" cake was a little mean! He was a good sport about it though and he knows he's still a Spring Chicken so his ego wasn't hurt too badly ; ). Anyways, about five minutes after this picture was taken I was carrying it in the kitchen and in what seemed like extremely slow motion my grip on the cake seemed to lessen and it slipped from my hands and fell upside down on the floor. Oops. A couple of my friends quickly came to the rescue and we flipped the cake over, right side up and cleaned up the blue gooey mess that was splattered everywhere, including the wall. I carved off about two inches of the top and we were good to go! (It's the 5 second rule, right???) I'm such a klutz. The kind that needs to go through life wearing a helmet and a butt pad. Are you a klutz? Any stories like mine to tell?

I hope you're having a good week!

Streetcars & Starbucks

Wow I just realized what a cheap outfit this is! Not as in hooker-cheap, I mean that I don't think I paid over $30.00 for anything I'm wearing here! This H & M Army jacket is one of my favorites that I got on sale last April. It's great for the Fall and Spring and you can dress it up or down and wear it fitted or loose.

Did you all have a good weekend? I hope so : ) I've talked about my two-year-old  nephew Kayden on this blog a few times and he is OBSESSED with trains so my mom and I thought he would love to ride our city's streetcar over the High Level Bridge yesterday. My Mom and I couldn't believe we had never ridden it before, it really is a little gem that not a lot of locals even know about. If you live in the Edmonton area I suggest you go! A ticket costs only $4.00. Note: my mom isn't in any of the photographs because she didn't want her mug posted on the world wide web ; ).

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
There's Kayden and the streetcar which was built in 1947 in Australia.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Here was one of our views from the train. Remember how in an earlier post I said I don't like Fall because that means Winter is just around the corner and I hate and despise our Canadian winters more than I despise getting a cavity filled? Well with all these beautiful colors I've decided to give Fall another chance ; ). I'll curse Winter once it arrives but for now I am going to enjoy the beautiful scenery and foliage we have this time of year. Yeah, I gave in : )~

Gorgeous! That's the North Saskatchewan River that runs through Alberta.

Kayden loved every minute of it.

See? What a cheeseball.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
We got off the train and grabbed Starbucks. A Pumpkin Spiced Latte for me and a Rice Krispie Square for the munchkin. Then he pooped his pants.

After Starbucks we headed back over the bridge to go home.

sweater, bracelets and ring - H&M    jeans - Sirens    shoes - Aldo   cross necklace - Tonight In Paris     hat -LOST

Do you think it's a sign when you know you're not supposed to spend anymore money on clothing for the month because you're already in the "budget hole" but you go into a store anyway because well, it's calling your name and when you're at the counter to make your purchase you realize OMG you left your wallet in the car and you never do that??? I think I have very good intuition (I actually think I'm kind of psychic - that's a whole other post though) and one might say I would definitely take this $$$ituation as a sign to leave the store calmly without looking back but did I mention there was a huge poster of Supermodel Daria Werbowy wearing the sweater above and she was chanting my name? And I was in H & M, my all-time favorite clothing store? Conundrum! I took THAT as a sign, went back to my car, retrieved my wallet, went back into my favorite store and took this baby home. (Thanks Daria!) Oh well, it was only $19.99 so I didn't feel too bad. Oh, and yes, it really is cold enough to be wearing a toque in September.

Yay to tomorrow being Friday!

Almost three years ago I cut my hair short:

I don't think I would ever do that again. I liked it for a few months but then I grew tired of not being able to put it up in a ponytail or bun. Before I chopped of my locks I hadn't had short hair since I was five years old when my mom (who was clearly on CRACK at the time) took me to her hair dresser and gave me the most awful haircut. She cut it exactly like my brother's (who is only a year older than me) and strangers would come up to us and comment on how cute her "twin boys" were. Seriously, I had a haircut like Neil Patrick Harris circa Doogie Howser. Gawd, the memories! I shudder! Anyways, back to the point of this post:  I'm thinking of growing out my hair long. Like almost down-to-my-bum- long. Just for the hell of it. What do you think? This may come as a surprise to you but I have naturally curly hair that looks like a perm from 1989 that I straighten every day because if I let it go natural I look like a frizz poodle. An angry frizz poodle. What do you think? Should I grow it long? Keep it the same? Or chop it all off?

I hope you're having a good week!

Blog Awards and Stupid Human Tricks

Happy Monday! (As happy as a Monday can be.) I hope you all had a great weekend! I was honored to receive a couple of Blog Awards last week. First I want to thank the lovely aspiring make-up artist behind Funny Face Beauty for awarding me the Sunshine Blog Award.

My second thank you goes to the talented photographer Snappy Q for awarding me the Versatile Blogger Award.

In order to receive this award I'm supposed to list 7 random facts about me so here goes. I  used images 'cause that's how I roll.
 1. I’m a terrible, terrible cook although I can make a mean-ass salad ; ) When I moved in with D. my best friends presented me with a copy of "The Rookie Cookbook" which I will crack open soon. Maybe. No, just kidding, I do want to learn ; ).

2. I can flip a coin from heads to tails on my stomach using my ab muscles and nothing else. This is just one of many useless and stupid human tricks I can do. ***Please let me know what stupid human tricks you can do in the comment section below, I'd love to hear!***

3. I don’t eat anything that has a face. I just can't do it. (photo via Cafe Bellini)

 4. One of my favorite things to do is to go to the movies with my girlfriends and eat a huge bag of extra-buttery popcorn.

5. When I was four, my brother burnt my face by accident with a marshmallow that was on fire. It left blisters but luckily no scars!

 6. I am a Reality Television junkie and watch waaaaaay too many reality shows: So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With the Stars, Teen Mom, The Real World, Jersey Shore, The Bachelor series…these are my guilty pleasures ; )

7. I am a recovering D.P.A. That's Diet Pepsi Addict. I decided to quit aspartame a couple of weeks ago because of what I think it's doing to my stomach.. It's been soooo hard! I used to drink 3 cans a day. (I know - BRUTAL.) I can't seem to find a low-calorie, refreshing, non-chemically enhanced drink besides water to replace it with. But my tummy is doing better so that's a plus.

I'm supposed to pass on these awards to some of my favorite blogs but I'm going to be B.A.D. and pass it on to ALL of you because really, how can I choose? So I apologize for being "That Girl" who doesn't play by the rules but I hope you understand why. I don't want to leave anyone out.

Blouse - ? (old)     Trousers - Cassis     Shoes - Spring     Hat - Joe Fresh      Bag - Winners

I don't like Fall. Not just because summer has ended but because when the weather gets colder and the leaves start to turn, that means Winter is just around the corner and where I live, this is not good news. No, no. Winters for me are too freaking cold and way too long! But I figure I might as well make the best of it and enjoy at least one part of Fall which is the fashion. When I think of Fall Fashion one of the first things that comes to mind is hats. Berets, caps, toque's, I love them all. Not only are they the lazy person's go-to accessory for bad hair days but they spice up any outfit. I picked up this hat for 15 bucks at a grocery store that just so happens to carry a clothing and make-up line called Joe Fresh (which is AWESOME by the way) and wearing it almost makes me feel less pessimistic about the upcoming seasons. Almost. ; )

In this post I also wanted to introduce you to the newest additions of my extended family:

"What the hell is this?" my husband growled.

Lancome Gift With Purchase

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Last week I bought some makeup products at Sears' Lancome counter just so I could get this awesome gift with purchase. I don't usually use Lancome, I'm more of a MAC girl but how could I pass this up? Who doesn't love promotions? Who doesn't love spending $34.00 on makeup and/or skincare that you may or may not need and getting $167 worth of free products back? I freakin' ENJOY these freebies! Here's what my gift contained:

- Nutrix Royal Body Intense Lipid Repair Cream 60g
-High Resolution Refill-3X Triple Action Renewal Anti-Wrinkle Cream w/ SPF 15 Sunscreen 15g
-High Resolution Intense Collagen Anti-Wrinkle Serum 15 ml
-Color Design Cream Lipstick in 'Love It!'
-Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Mascara in 'Excessive Black'
-Color Design Ombre Effect Eye Shadow Quad
-Black Makeup Bag
-Black Companion Makeup Bag

You can choose 6 different products, two of them have to be skincare products. The items I didn't choose were a Juicy Tube Lipgloss, a bottle of Eye Makeup Remover and the skincare products for women over forty because, well I'm not forty just yet ; )

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Here's a close-up of the skincare I chose. (Sorry the bottom one - the anti-wrinkle cream - is out of focus.)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Here's the eye shadow quad. From top left clockwise the colors are: Impress, Avant Gold, Sparkling Brown and Gold Riche.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Here's a swatch.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Here's what all 4 colors look like on my eyes.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Close-up of the makeup products I chose.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Here's what the lipstick looks like on. It looks much pinker in the tube, I thought it would be too bright and pink for me but it's actually quite lighter and warmer when applied.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
And here's what I bought to get my goodies. A shimmer eye shadow called Gaze and a lip liner with a lip brush called Charme. I wanted a shimmery, vanilla-colored light eyeshadow and the lip liner just so happens to match the lipstick I got in my gift which I didn't plan.

So I haven't used any of the skincare yet because I'm trying to use up my other (very) expensive facial products first. Can you blame me when I spend over $200 on anti-aging products?  : o  I love the colors of the lipstick and eye shadows. The eye shadows are easy to apply and last throughout the day. I should note here that the colors of the eye shadows may vary from store to store. As for the mascara: I've been a fan of Lancome's mascaras for a long time, they're amazing, but they're just really expensive for me to buy on a regular basis so I tend to buy drugstore brands instead. And the cute mama and baby makeup bags - how adorable are they? All in all, this gift with purchase is totally worth the $34.00 you have to spend to receive it. I'll use everything in the pack which isn't always the case with other gifts w/ purchases I've received because sometimes the colors of makeup products they offer don't look good on me; sometimes I feel the make-up brands put together a clustermuck of products they're trying to get rid of. Not this time. I am in love with quality of the make-up products and you can tell the skincare is expensive so it MUST work right??? Ha, I'll let you know! I'll be buying Lancome in the future for sure.

What are your favorite Lancome products? And are you going to be shopping at Sears this week? ; )
