I bought this maxi dress a year ago at Charlotte Russe when I was in the states. I think I've only worn it 3 or 4 times but I'll definitely be getting more use out of it this summer. I love how it flows and keeps me cool. It was so hot yesterday when these pics were taken but an hour later the sky turned dark grey, there was thunder so loud it made me jump out of my boots and rain came pouring down in sheets! So D and I went out on the deck under a patio umbrella and a blanket and watched the rain fall. It was so refreshing!

Just for Fun

I was tagged by the lovely and beautiful Lena over at Quality Rivets to answer a few questions about myself. So here goes!

1.  What do you do?

      For a living I am a Buyer for a company that caters to the oil industry. I also do some acting here and there in commercials, movies and television and I teach Pilates once a week during the school year.

2.  What did you name your blog and why?

      Marie a la Mode. Mode means "a particular form, variety, or manner. Example: a mode of expression." This blog is my mode of expression. Also, I liked the alliteration of the two "M"'s : ).

3.   Why did you start blogging?

      Well I love writing, fashion, art, photography, beauty products/cosmetics and entertainment and I wanted a creative outlet to share my passions, inspirations and opinions with others so I created this blog to do so. I read many inspiring blogs for about two years before I had the courage to say, "I can do that!" and started my own.

4.   Whose closet would you raid?

      Oh my. To name a few: Rachel Bilson's, Nicole Richie's, Sienna Miller's, Clemence Poesy's, Jessica Alba's and Alexa Chung's. They all have amazing style and I'm sure their wardrobes would be nothing short of amazing!

5.   What trend are you loving right now?

      H & M, Zara, F21, Winners, Aldo, thrift stores and Sephora and MAC for cosmetics.

7.   Are you an impulsive buyer or not?

      So not. I'm pretty smart with my money. Plus I have a mortgage to pay on my own so I can't afford to buy on impulse!

8.   How has your style evolved over the last few years?

      Well 5 years ago when I was teaching Pilates classes pretty much full-time I practically lived in my lululemon pants and tank tops and I never wore heels! That has since changed (thank goodness) and I love experimenting with the latest trends in fashion or wearing something that may not be trendy at the moment but suits my body and style, something I feel good in. I realize you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on a great outfit, either.

      P.S. I wear heels now ; )

A Must -Read!

This post is not about clothes, shoes or accessories but something just as vital to my "life's wardrobe": books! I'm a nerd. Yup. I love to read and I still go to the library with my boyfriend and take out books. I don't know a lot of people who still do this (besides my BF and cousin who has her Masters in Library Science) and I'm not sure why. It's free entertainment! Maybe it's because most people buy books and/or can read one easily online or using a Kindle but I still like the ritual of going into a library, taking in that old, musty-book smell, physically searching for a great story to read, conversing with the librarian about the latest bestseller and escaping into another place, another time with a large hardcover novel in my hands for a mere $12.00 a year for a library membership.

The last book I read was the one above, "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. I finished it last night. This powerful story had me up early before work just so I could read a chapter before starting my day! I am so glad it's being made into a movie because it's such a heart-warming, compelling story. Other books I have read over the past couple of years that I highly recommend are: 

Ok so a couple of years ago I was really into reading books about adult entertainers for some reason LOL, which is why I picked up the above "Candy Girl" by Diablo Cody (she wrote the movie "Juno") and "How to Make Love Like a P*rn Star" by Jenna Jameson. Both are memoirs and were utterly fascinating and entertaining to read!

What are your favorite books? I'm looking for the next great novel to immerse myself in so what do you recommend? And does anyone still go to the library besides me??

I'm not going to write on essay on whether or not young celebrities should be getting plastic surgery because I'm sure they all have their reasons and/or body dysmorphic disorder (ahem, HEIDI) which in that case I truly do feel sorry for them. I'm certainly not opposed to getting some botox here and there if needed in a few years down the road or maybe even an eye or face lift when I become droopy at an older age. (Hey, I do some acting on television and film so can you blame me if I want to look a few years younger when I'm 45?). But when I came across the pic of twenty four year-old, beautiful as-is Megan Fox the other day when I was scrolling through my favorite, guilty-pleasure tabloid website TMZ, it made me think: If these young celebrities are getting plastic surgery now, what are they going to look like in 10, 20, 30 years from now? Here's a preview below.

Priscilla Presley. I think it's safe to say Elvis would roll over in his grave if he knew how much plastic surgery his baby momma has had.

Hi, I hope you all had a great weekend! The sun finally came out on Saturday, accompanied by some hot, hot weather, and lasted throughout the weekend which made me extremely happy. When the sun is shining, life is better isn't it? It just puts me in a better mood! Friday I saw "Get Him to the Greek." It was hilarious. Not as good as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" which is one of my favorite comedies but still as raunchy and ridiculous. Saturday went to a BBQ and had a blast with friends I hadn't seen in a long time. Some people had too much to drink (not me) and it made for an interesting night ; ). Today, Father's Day, was spent in the backyard of my parent's house eating a fabulous meal, visiting with relatives and spending time with my Dad. The outfit above is what I wore today. I bought the black vest when I was in Vegas for $20. I gravitated towards it because of the lace back. There's also lace on the front but you can't see the detail too well in the pictures. Have a great week everyone!

Did you know Katie Holmes has a clothing line that she created with her stylist Jeanne Yang called -you guessed it- Holmes & Yang? I only recently found this out although the line was launched last fall. I don't know, maybe I've been living under a rock but I like to think I'm on the up and up with all celebrity news and gossip. Apparently I'm not! Anyways, what do you think of the maxi dress Katie wore from her line to the National Movie Awards this past May? I absolutely love it. And I'm actually impressed. I love the length, the cut and the diagonal stripes. I think she looks stunning. I'm not too fond of her accessory (Tom Cruise - I'm still not over his rant about Brooke Shields in that interview he gave with Matt Lauer years ago - gee do I hold a grudge much?) but the dress stands alone. Unfortunately this dress is only available at Maxfield in L.A. So I want to know: would you wear it?
