Lady Gaga Concert

So last Thursday I told you I won tickets to Lady Gaga's Monster's Ball. I didn't have much time to figure out what I was going to wear, I couldn't make up my mind so I quickly put together this outfit. (When in doubt, wear black, right?) It's nothing fancy and I wish now that I had more time to plan a full-out Gaga outfit but I won the tickets less than 48 hours before the concert. Maybe I can dress up as Gaga for Halloween this year ; ) Anyways, the concert was absolutely amazing! Gaga is an entertainer like no other and you can tell how much she truly loves her fans. I could go on and on about how fabulous the concert was but I know you're itching to see the pictures so without further adieu, here you go!

Lady Gaga's Bum

Her outfit is made out of latex.

She had so many outrageous outfits!

Despite a) The over-indulgent, pants-less, convulsing annoying male opening act, b) the drunk chick that sat down on the floor right next to us who must have had a burrito mixed with lotsa alcohol and proceeded to throw it all up sitting down on the ground between her legs and c) my feet aching like they've never ached before because I decided to wear wedges instead of flats (why, Marie, why??) which resulted in my cousin carrying me via piggyback on our way home from the train station, this concert kicked ASS! It was AMAZING! It kinda changed my life ; ). If you get the chance, (and you're over 15 years of age), go!

Yesterday Was My Lucky Day

Y

So I've been kicking myself for not getting tickets to one of Lady Gaga's two concerts she's performing in my hometown tonight and tomorrow night. When my friend told me the other day she was going to see her in Vancouver a pang of jealousy swept through my body. How could I have not purchased tickets??? Dummy. At the time they went on sale, $100-$200 tickets were not in my budget. I tried winning them on the radio the past few weeks but no luck. I even put it out in the Universe, saying in my head, "Universe. Pretty, pretty Universe. Please. Somehow let me get a hold of some tickets to see The Fame Monster. I think I've been a really good person lately and deserve it. Amen." But when nothing happened and as the concert was nearing I came to terms with the fact that I'd be missing the biggest concert of the year, if not the decade. I guess I'd have to replay the 'Alejandro' video over and over on Youtube and try to re-create the choreography in the 'Love Game' video in super-high heels and fishnets in my living room to get one tenth of my Gaga fix. To help cheer myself up I bought this on the weekend:

If I couldn't see her live on stage at least I could read about and connect with her through the pages of one of my favorite magazines, right? WELL, I am pleased to tell you that I must have sat on a friggin' horse shoe yesterday because when I arrived at work early at 7:15 a.m. I called into my favorite radio station to win tickets and Oh my Lord I got through! They were looking for caller #25, #26 and #27 and this bee-yatch (yes, moi) just so happened to get through as caller #26! They had the three of us guess how many seconds one of the DJ's could keep rotten eggs, soya sauce, mustard and horse radish in his mouth for without gagging. The contest was called "Gagging for Gaga." I guessed 45 seconds and he gagged at 45.2! I won two tickets on the floor to tonight's concert! I ran down the hallway in my office yelping and told anyone who would listen I had won TWO TICKETS TO LADY GAGA!!! They were all happy for me except for a few older coworkers who responded with, "Lady Who???" I'm taking my cousin who is as big a fan as I am and we cannot wait to see the woman who runs the Haus of Gaga live in concert! THANK YOU Universe! Also, I found out I won a beautiful bracelet from Closet Fashionista's giveaway on her blog. Yesterday must have been my lucky day : )

Do you have tickets to Gaga's concert? Have you been already? What should I expect? And more importantly what should I wear???

This Makes My Blood Boil

This post has nothing to do with what I usually write about on my blog but I have to get this out because I'm very passionate about animals and I think everyone needs to hear this story. A couple of weeks ago my sister-in-law Shelley found a bichon/poodle cross hiding in her horse barn. (Yes, that's her in the above picture - how cute is she???) Shelley and my brother live on a ranch outside the city, near a river and she thinks this dog was abandoned there and eventually found its way to the barn. When Shelley discovered her she was covered in mud, wet and cold. Her fur was long and matted; it obviously hadn't been combed or cut in a long time, if ever. She was absolutely terrified and literally shaken to the core. The pup couldn't look my sister-in-law in the eye, kept her head down and wouldn't come near her. Shelley eventually got a hold of her, even with the dog snapping and shaking and took her to the house. She thinks this pup came from a puppy mill. I asked her how she would know in an email and below is her response that I'd thought I share with you:

I don't know for sure if she came from a puppy mill, but there is a good chance she did. She had no identification on her - no tags, no tattoos, no micro chip. If anyone would have cared for her they would of had some kind of ID on her. Her nails had not been trimmed in a long time and she can't bark so I'm thinking she was debarked. The vet I took her to said she's around two years old and has had multiple litters of pups. And after a certain amount of years giving birth to pups the puppy mills get rid of them cause they are no good to them anymore if they cant have healthy pups or have difficulties delivering. Another reason why I think she came from a puppy mill is that she will poop in her kennel and 99% of dogs will not poop in their beds. But if they are always in a kennel they have no choice but to poop where they sleep. She also eats cat poop so I'm thinking when she was out in the wild she ate whatever she could to survive. After I rescued her she puked every day cause she was so scared and terrified of car rides, probably because the only time she was in a car was when she was dropped off in the bush. Now she can go for a car ride without shaking or puking in the car. I want to mention here that Shelley took her to work with her every day and this is why she'd been traveling in cars. Also she is finally eating and drinking; it took her three days before she would eat or drink anything.

I was absolutely heart-broken after reading this. How can people do this? Who could just abandon a helpless dog by a river to fend for itself with coyotes waiting to eat it for dinner? The people that run puppy mills should be put in cages themselves.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I'm glad to tell you there is a happy ending to this story. Because she was rescued by such a caring, big-hearted animal-lover that has decided to keep her I have no doubt in my mind she will live a healthy and happy life from now on. Her name is Dixie and she is in the best hands possible. She lives on a ranch with two other dogs, six horses and a very energetic toddler with lots of room to run and play. There's plenty of food for her to eat, plenty of water for her to drink and plenty of love to go around. Dixie sleeps inside with my brother and his wife (under the covers even!) and now shows excitement when they come home instead of fear. This makes me happy. I met the pooch the other day and she is very shy, winces at any loud sound or voice and doesn't move at all when you hold her but I'm hopeful she'll come around and get more comfortable around people as time goes on. She's such a sweet dog and I'm happy she's a part of the family now.

I hope that in sharing this personal story with you it will bring to your attention how horrible puppy mills are and how we should NOT support them in any way. To learn how to do this you can click here.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read this, I appreciate it!

Happy Monday everyone! As happy as a Monday can be I guess. ; ) I hope you all had a great weekend! I don't really live in a frat house but since I moved on Saturday and D.'s roommate is still living there for a couple of more weeks I feel like a bit like I do, hence the title of this post. He loves loud music, late nights, pizza, beer, girls, untidiness - reminds me of college. The move itself went pretty well. We still have tons of unpacking and organizing to do but that will get done slowly. The highlight of my weekend was going to Ikea to pick up a mattress pad! I'm wondering where these mattress pads have been all my life and why I didn't buy one sooner? It definitely makes a HUGE difference in comfort! We then went to The Bay and picked up 600 thread count sheets. I didn't know much about "thread counts" but I am well-versed now. Oh Lord I just realized I'm totally turning into one of Those People who go to Home Depot and Bed Bath & Beyond every weekend like Will Ferrell in 'Old School'. Next I'll be picking out paint chips and a new lawn mower ; )

On to The Outfit: I wore this Friday night to my friend's surprise birthday party. The top I got at Zara for $30 on sale. It's casual yet somewhat dressy because of the sequin detailing at the top, which I love.

K I better get back to unpacking! I promise to catch up on your blogs within the next couple of days! With moving and work I've been quite the busy bee so I hope you understand.  : )

The Week in Review & My First Feature!

Happy Friday! This post is a cluster of things I wanted to talk about that don't really have anything in common with the other so I hope you don't mind me jumping from one topic to the next. I'm moving tomorrow and will be away from the blog world for a few days so I wanted to stuff in as much as possible into one post! Speaking of moving --which is a big pain in the arse but luckily I have lots of help-- above is a pic of my cat Prints Whiskerson Sultenfuss The First (but we call her "Kitty") hanging out in a box full of coffee cups I had started packing up. She looks SO impressed ; )

1. So first I want to thank Janis from Dress Me Dearly who featured me on her lovely blog yesterday. You can read my interview here. It's my very first feature so I'm stoked!

2. Surfing the net this week I fell in love with these shoes from Chloe. I can't afford them but a girl can dream can't she? These Sam Edelman Falken boots below are a little bit closer to my price range.

Like I said, I'm in love. With the shoes. Not the guy below.

3. Can you guess who this is? Don't scroll down yet! Try and guess! He's one of my favorite comedic actors on the set of his new movie 'My Idiot Brother.' Hint: I've mentioned before on this blog that he loves "slappin' da base!" I came across this photo on People.com and couldn't believe it was......are you ready?........

Paul Rudd from 'Dinner With Schmucks' and 'I love You, Man!' I will watch anything he's in so I can't wait for his latest film to come out. The quirky Zooey Deschanel is co-starring ; )

4. I finally tried Covergirl's Lashblast mascara and I think Drew Barrymore is on to something because I love it. It's the best one I've come across and I've tried MAC, Lancome, Maybelline, L'Oreal, Josie Maran, and other Covergirl mascaras but this one is the best by far. It really lengthens and volumizes my lashes. And it's only about $8.00!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Enjoy these last weeks of summer! Ugh I don't want to think about summer ending but I have to face reality : (  I'll be back next week with an outfit post. As long as I can find my clothes in the hundreds of boxes I've packed!  ; )

Not Just An Ordinary Mall

I thought it would be fun to introduce my international readers - and re-introduce my Canadian readers because I'm sure most of them are familiar with this famous national landmark - to the highlight of the city I live in, West Edmonton Mall. It's the biggest mall in North America and the fifth largest in the world. It covers over 6 million square feet in a huge-ass building. And I mean HUGE. I've lived in this city most of my life, have been to WEM gajillion times and I still manage to get lost! However I do always remember the way to Zara, H & M, F21, Anthropologie, Aldo, MAC and Sephora. : )~  I'm going to take you on a little journey and pretend you've come to visit me. First, I'd take you shopping! (Of course.)

There are over 800 stores and services in this mall. We just got our first Victoria's Secret store in Canada last week! I still haven't been inside; I went last Friday and there were about 100 people lined up, with security guards and all. I didn't have time to wait a couple of hours because I had a film to catch. Which I saw inside this mall since we have a massive movie theatre including an IMAX screen. Ok, back to our adventure!

Next I'd take you skating in the Ice Palace. We're in Canada after all...We could play a little hockey or practice our triple axle jumps.....Can you see Wayne Gretzky in the corner there???? Just kidding.

Let's play a round of mini-golf next. Or we could wait until later in the night for 'Putt 'N Glow' to play glow-in-the-dark golf, it's totally up to you.

Now I hope you brought your bathing suit/bikini/banana hammock because you just HAVE to experience the largest indoor Water Park in the world! When it's -30 degrees outside I like to come here and pretend I'm in a tropical country. There are palm trees in this complex, too and did I mention the pool turns into a wave pool every ten minutes or so?

Crappy picture but you get the gist of it, right? I've been on the one (of two) slides that go straight down. It's called the 'Screamer' but it should be called, "If you weren't wearing a thong then, you are now!" Note: Make sure you close your legs when riding this thing so your ass doesn't swallow your bikini bottom. And so you'll be able to bear children in the future.

Next I'd haul our butts to Galaxy Land, the largest indoor Amusement Park in the world : )

This place makes me happy because I absolutely love rides! This roller coaster is called the Mindbender but my favorite ride is the Space Shot, formerly the "Drop of Doom", which drops 75 feet in the air, pauses, and then drops another 50 feet in the air in about 4 seconds. Your heart jumps in your throat. It's AWESOME! The last time I was here I rode it five times in a row because there was no line-up. D. watched from the deck because he would've hurled if he went on with me. But you of course YOU would accompany me, right? ; )

This area is called the Sea Cavern. It's an indoor lake that contains a salt-water habitat with four sea lions and a replica of the Santa Maria. There's a ship? In the mall??? Why yes, yes there is!

Here's a close-up. The Santa Maria has been used for fundraisers, charity events and weddings. Also, a few drunk people have been known to jump into the water late at night. There are many pubs, an entertainment complex and a few nightclubs in this mall so people tend to get a little out of hand. But let's stay dry, ok? I don't wanna get arrested.

We'd definitely have to go see the Sea Lion show. Here's one of the them entertaining the audience : ) Isn't he cute?

Oh hi, Jessica Alba! Here's Jess when she was filming scenes for "Good Luck Chuck" with a few friends in the mall's penguin habitat.

After our day of shopping and playing I'd treat you to dinner at one of the numerous delicious restaurants located in the mall, probably on Bourbon Street...

...and take you to a show at The Comic Strip that will have you laughing your pants off. When you're ready to call it a day I would walk you to your Hotel (yes, it's in the mall, too) so you could get some rest. You could choose one of these theme rooms to stay in at the Fantasyland Hotel: Hollywood, Roman, Polynesian, Truck (?), Western, Arabian, African, Igloo (stereotype of Canada, here's me rolling my eyes), Sports or Canadian Rail with your very own Train Bed! You'd need a good sleep because we'd be doing this all again tomorrow!

So, are you in?

The Zit Remedy

So I thought I would share with you a little "secret" on how to get rid of a zit fast. I came across this little concoction on google last Thursday when a massive pimple- and I mean HUGE, think BIG and then think BIGGER, and then think bigger that that- decided to nest itself in my chin. This boil (ew) was so huge my coworkers were dodging it while walking past me in the hallway. My own mother told me it looked like a nose (thanks mom) and at a BBQ, when my family was sitting down to eat, my brother told me I'd need two chairs - one for me and one for "that thing on your face." So you can't blame me for being desperate to get rid of this thing, which was developing a mind of its own. I was in a panic because this weekend was my Grandma's 88th birthday celebration and we'd be taking family photos. So thanks to google I found an article that said if you put calamine lotion on the affected area at night, it would zap the liquid out and dry it out. Then, in the morning, put honey on it to sanitize the area, decrease inflammation and remove the bacteria that caused the pimple in the first place. I couldn't get  to the drugstore fast enough. I'm happy to tell you it worked like a charm. It didn't get rid of the pimple completely but it definitely no longer looked like a nose and I was able to show my face at work the next day. For family pictures I put a bit of concealer on it and -ta da - you could hardly tell a volcano was about to erupt on my face only 3 days ago. And today it's practically gone. Thanks to this combo I am as happy as that girl on the bottle of the honey above and I only need to use one chair at the next BBQ I attend ; ).

On another note, I saw 'Eat, Pray, Love' this weekend and I was a bit disappointed. I thought the book was way better than the film. I still enjoyed the movie but everything that happened in the movie didn't have as much weight to it as it did in the book, I was more invested in the characters I met in the pages rather than on screen. And in the book Julia Roberts' character does a TON of Yoga when she's in India and she didn't do ANY in the film! What's up with that? Yoga was such a huge part of her self-discovery! Oh sorry, she does roll out a Yoga mat when she's in Italy but the scene ends before she even sets foot on it. Anyways, despite all my grumblings I did enjoy it but it didn't meet my expectations.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Yay the weekend is finally here! It's been a loooong week for me, how about you? I move next week so I've been packing like a madwoman while watching my favorite reality shows (of course) including So You Think You Can Dance (AMAZING finale!) and getting everything in order. I'm taking a break from organizing tonight though, to have some fun. It can't be all work and no play, right? I'm going to go to Canada's first ever Victoria's Secret store which opened yesterday in my hometown. You don't understand how MAJOR this is for us Canadians! It's like getting a McDonald's in your city for the first time except that the fries are panties! And I'm a Vegetarian and don't actually eat there but you know what I mean. And after I do a bit of shopping  I'm meeting my friend to see Eat Pray Love. Ahhh, I'm so excited to see this movie!! Who else will be seeing it this weekend?

On to 'The Outfit': this is probably one of the last times I'll be able to wear shorts, I certainly feel that (damn) Fall is upon us as the weather here hasn't been the greatest. I've been getting a lot of use out of these wedges though and I'll probably be wearing them still when it starts to snow! Which I don't want to think about.

Have a good weekend my friends!
