A Wedding and a Winner Announced!

I'm not sure if you're aware but apparently there's a HUGE Royal Wedding taking place tomorrow across the pond?? ; ) Ha! Unless you've been living under a rock you know that Prince William will be marrying commoner Kate Middleton tomorrow morning in what is guaranteed to be the most lavish wedding of the decade. My question is: will you watch? I would have to get up at 1 a.m. Canadian time (no way in hell that's happening, I need my beauty sleep) to watch the nuptials live so I will be catching a re-run later. I'm most excited to see her dress, that's really all I care about, that and all the crazy-ass hats the guests will be wearing!

Here's Brit Brit with Nicki Minaj at Nicki's official concert after party at The Factory in West Hollywood Friday night. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw these photos was, "I guess Britney couldn't be bothered to put a little makeup on." In the past she couldn't be bothered to wear shoes in public restrooms at gas stations so should I be surprised? What do you think? On Friday I told you that we had to cancel our trip to Banff this past weekend because of the horrible driving conditions due to the (unwelcome, very unwelcome) dump of snow we got last week. I was bummed but I didn't let it ruin my weekend. It was full of quality time with friends, family, Yoga and amazing food. This is what I wore Saturday to go shopping with my best friend Kristin for some retail therapy. D. calls these pants my "grade 5 pants" because they don't have a zipper or pockets. I explained to him they're not jeans they're "jeggings" and they are in STYLE but he still didn't get it. Men! Anyways, I wore one of my favorite jackets from H & M and decided to pair it with my Rolling Stones tee that I also got from H & M. (You know how I love me some H & M!) Saturday night was spent with family for an early Easter dinner. I ate a lot of this:

My nephew, Kayden. Not sure why it's so freakin' funny but if you throw a box on a toddler's head and watch them run around wild and almost run into things it's pure entertainment. If I had gone to Banff I wouldn't have been able to witness this hilarity. So maybe everything worked out for a reason?

Seasons Of Our Discontent

Right now where I live we're experiencing what I like to call "Sprinter." That's winter weather in the springtime. A more appropriate word to describe this weather would be BULLSHIT but I won't go there. Okay yes I will. I hate talking about the weather all the time but how can I not when it's April 15th and we have 14 cm of snow on the ground? Even though this is Canada it's still abnormal and maddening. Especially since we were teased with spring-like weather a week ago only to have it taken away by angry weather gods playing a sick joke on us. Assholes.

On a brighter note, since I'm not venturing out to the mountains this weekend I've decided to move to California where the weather isn't insane go shopping instead for some retail therapy. Give your slightly-worn clothing and accessories that have been sitting in your closet collecting dust a second chance by swapping them for items you'd actually wear. I've already gone through my two closets (I know, I have way too many clothes) and have pulled some great pieces I'll be bringing to the swap! The event will take place Saturday April 30th from 10 a.m. - 6p.m. and Sunday May 1st from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Telus Field. More than a swap, the event also features a marketplace of local vendors and businesses and on-site health, wellness and beauty service providers. Plus you can get your makeup and hair done for free by M.C. College! (Woot, woot!)

Here's how the swap works:

Attendees can swipe 6-12 of their best men's and women's clothing and accessories, receiving gold, silver or bronze swap tokens for each qualifying item brought in. Last year they received all kinds of great pieces from labels like Kate Spade, Rock and Republic, BCBG, Diesel, DKNY, Betsey Johnson and even a Coach bag! These are the types of items that would qualify as "gold." Once your items are checked in you'll receive swap tokens right away. You can then use these tokens to "buy" any items you like from the swap.  All remaining clothing will be donated to the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Bissell Centre. I suggest you register to drop your clothes off early, before the event, at these drop-off locations to avoid long line ups (and sore feet!) on the actual day.

Look closely. Do you see that? The snow is melting! And the sun is out! Finally. After a cold and unusually long winter I think spring has actually sprung! Now I know that the majority of you reading this post have been experiencing beautiful spring weather for awhile now but I live in Canada, remember? Spring decides to poke its little head out much later than normal here. And even then we can still receive a random unwelcome dump of snow in April, May or June. Or July. Or August. (Yes, really.) But I’m hoping and praying this winter is over and I can rid my closet of my Uggs and bulky, heavy jackets and replace them with open-toed heels and maxi skirts. Fingers crossed.

This is what I wore Saturday night to the annual ‘Spring Zinger’ D. and I attend which is a fundraiser and silent auction for the Royal Glenora Childcare Society that our friends (and their young son) are a part of. It was really casual so I decided to wear a blouse with my go-to black pants from H & M. I kind of regret wearing such tight pants to an event our Mayor attended but oh well. At least I wasn’t the drunk chick yelling out requests to the ukulele cover band that was playing! Speaking of ukulele bands The BeArthurs rocked it out that night. You should check them out because they will be famous one day and you can say, “oh yeah, those were the guys Marie a la Mode was talking about!” I went to theatre school with two of the band members and they are so talented, they ooze talent. We had a great time and ended the evening with a late night run to McDonald’s for greasy fries. Yummy.

Their Makeup Artists Need to be Fired

Just Sayin'! First pasty Nicole, then oblivious Uma and now poor Ashley Judd has fallen victim to cocaine-face this week at her book signing with what I call a 'Makeup Malfunction." How embarrassing! Especially when captured in photos for the whole world to see. Ladies, if you're going out this weekend and will be using powder on your face make sure you spread and blend. Repeat.
