MONEYBAG CHIEF TONY PREST PREPARES FOR DELTA 2015 ELECTION

We are totally loving the fact that some people are not seating on their high horses expecting miracles to happen or that others should do something. One of those who has thought to put his money where his mouth is, is none other than the very rich businessman from the illustrious Prest family from Warri,  Delta state in the person of Chief Anthony Tosan Prest. 


When people like him, who have the resources, wherewithal & connection (money wise & with great influence) would decide to stand for the welfare of his people, then we welcome such development with open hands and joy in our heart. We are loving the current campaign by Chief Tony Prest to recruit able volunteers towards his ambition to help change the fortune of his beloved people of Delta State. 

He has pitched his tent with the ruling party in the state which is the PDP and if all works out we might just be referring to the astute entrepreneur after the next election as His Excellency, Governor Anthony Tosan Prest. 

Chief Tony Prest is related to the former Miss Nigeria 1979, in the person of Helen Prest Ajayi, who is his niece, while his nephew is Mr. Michael Prest, a very very rich, oil tycoon director of Petrodel Group who not too long ago lost a landmark divorce case instituted against him by his ex-wife, where he had to pay the lady a whopping £17.5 million Pounds in settlement.

The incarcerated former Governor of Delta State, in the person of Chief James O. Ibori, whose cousin is the present Governor of the oil rich state and most probably the richest state in Nigeria, is still very relevant in the scheme of things in Nigeria, especially in his state-Delta.

Though the former Governor is still a guest of Her Majesty the Queen of England, in one of her jails for sundry criminal offenses, his birthday a few days ago August 4, 2013 to be precise was celebrated in his home town Oghara, Delta State by his friends,family members,admirers and associates & many others with plenty of pomp.

It was a large gathering of many very important personalities and their followers from the Delta region, who all came out in large numbers, to show solidarity with and celebrate a man who has meant so much to them either in jail or outside of it. It was also a way to show how still very relevant the former Governor is.

Chief James O. Ibori, the very influential PDP Stalwart before he ran away from the country to Dubai from where he was extradited to the UK to face the court for running afoul of the law and was subsequently jailed, was a very influential power-broker in Nigeria (the well renowned CNN DESCRIBED HIM AS ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL POLITICIANS in Nigeria in recent times), who was well celebrated with many titles while he was in ruling in Delta State; he would adding a new title to his many other titles- that of an ex-convict, by the time he comes out of jail in some months time.

If this birthday celebration is a pointer to what we should expect when he would be released, then we must expect a mother of all party, to celebrate the 'warrior who has gone to the battle field and conquered, winning a gloriously great victory.

The 3 days birthday celebration train began with a thanksgiving service at the First Baptist Church, Ogharefe, where the Pastor of the Church- Pastor Godswill charged those who attended to emulate the former Governor!

Hear the ' Man of God' What is that aspect of Ibori's personality that could attract such a mammoth crowd, which filled the church and overflowed outside, he had asked before answering his own question thus: ''It is a given that Ibori is a huge success. You have come to Oghara today because Ibori is  a man who after climbing high in the social, political and economic ladders of Nigeria, did not seize and throw away the ladders in the way that most Nigerian big men usually do; he made the ladders available for others to climb up too.

The 3 days birthday celebration of 'his grace', Chief James Onanefe Ibori, who clocked 55 years at the weekend- being born on August 4, 1958, would end today, Tuesday, August 6, 2013 with a topflight novelty football match in his honour set for the Ogbara Township Stadium.

All hail the birthday boy. Long may you live!!! You are a Lion par excellence!

IS BABATUNDE GBADAMOSI PDP ANSWER TO LAGOS STATE

Many are of the opinion that the next election into the Alausa Government house is still a long way away. While those who know very well what time it is are already preparing themselves for the battle ahead. We had written in our earlier post about the likely personalities from the ACN that would vie for the post to take over from Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola. 


Now we are shifting our attention to the most prominent of the oppositions in Lagos. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). And from our little findings, 3 prominent names have cropped up. First one is that of Dr Ade Dosunmu, who represented the party at the last election and was obliterated by Governor Fashola. The gap was so much that it was too good to be true. We hear he is still very keen on trying his might again, probably lesson has been learnt and he is now better prepared for the battle. 

The other name that has been receiving prominence is that of Jay Kay, that is what many call the great pharmacist Joseph Olujimi Kolawole Agbaje, better known as Jimi Agbaje. He too had also tried unsuccessfully to rule Lagos, but he couldn't get his former party's nomination then. A result of which has made him to cross carpet. And he now wants to try his luck with the PDP. We hear he his being favorably considered.

The last but not the least amongst the trio is Mr. Babatunde Gbademosi, a known social commentator, who used to live in the UK before, but returned home a while back to see how he can contribute his own quota into the development of his beloved Lagos. He is the proud owner of the AMEN Estate around the Lekki area of Lagos. A successful man in many ramifications. He has taken a plunge into the 'supposed' murky waters of politics in Lagos, Nigeria. One hopes he wouldn't come out of it stained. A few times we have heard him talk, he has impressed admirably.

But, is he strong enough to give the other 2 a run for their money?

If he is selected, nominated or chosen to represent his party? Can he give the other party's candidate a good fight?

Does he even have the so called ''pedigree'' to rule a state like Lagos?

What does he have to offer? 

Many questions just keep popping up! 2015 ain't going to be easy oooooooooooo. PDP would have the greatest & biggest party (celebration) in the world, if they can win Lagos.

WHERE IS THE SO CALLED OPPOSITION IN LAGOS STATE? ARE THEY READY FOR THE NEXT ELECTION?

A few weeks ago we had asked the question on this platform- Who is the next Governor of Lagos? Our reason mainly for asking was because we had observed some moves by some members of the ruling party- the ACN who seem to have loads of those that can vie for the post. Some were even already making their intentions known either openly or surreptitiously. Many names are been bandied around and everyone seem to be jostling one way or the other, trying to test the waters, though the election is still about 2 years away. We quite understand the fact that some are using it as bargaining tool for relevance.

While some have openly shown their intentions, some are still acting like they are not interested at all, while their body language says otherwise. We love the fact that those who commented on the last post seem to agree with some of the names with we had made mention of in our earlier write-up- the likes of Gbolahan Lawal, Obafemi Hamzat, Muiz Banire, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Gbenga Ashafa, Ganiyu Solomon etc.

But we must be seen to be just and fair in our assessment or should we just say our spotlight. We should not be seen to be pointing our light in only one direction. Which is why we have thought to ask the new question above- Where is the so called OPPOSITION in Lagos? Where are the other parties in the opposition on the other side and by extension their candidates? Reason for asking the question is not far-fetched at all, they do not seem to be visible at all. 

Apart from the likes of Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro & Senator Wahab Dosunmu, both of the PDP. Who both at a time had both shown interest and couldn't muster the massive support that was required to get the sit, no other personality(ies) in the opposition camps is/are seemingly visible. 

This makes one to begin to wonder. If it's just about the ACN in Lagos? Is it that the good works of the Government of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of the ACN, has been so colossal/outstanding that the opposition seem to have been pummeled into submission and seem to have lost their voices totally. Or is it a strategy on the side of the opposition not to reveal their trump card(s) yet, until very near the election time and then spring major surprises and flush the ACN out? Or is it that the opposition are seemingly so short on the right kind of people to run for the office of the Governor of the State of Aquatic Excellence, also known as the Center of Excellence, that they can't just be seen to show face? 

What truly is the case? We do not think it should be a BRF/BAT/ACN thing alone. Even if the ACN/APC would win in the long run, let there be a good competition. 

Where are the people? Or have you guys seen or heard about anyone?

KAYODE FAYEMI SLAMS SEGUN ONI AGAIN

So finally the matter would be laid to rest now. The highest court in the country, The Supreme Court of Nigeria, has finally reiterated the victory of the sitting Governor, His Excellency Governor Kayode Fayemi of ACN. And by extension has declared no hanky-panky was involved. 

This Supreme Court case had been the fallout of the dispute over the conduct of the 2007 Governorship election in Ekiti State. Remember Segun Oni's PDP election victory had been nullified by the Court of Appeal in 2009 under the leadership of Justice Salami. Oni had gone to court to protest that there might have been a case of bias, because of alleged cordiality between the head of the Court of Appeal and the leadership of Fayemi's party- The ACN. His appeal was centered on the fact that Justice Ayo Salami should have excused himself from the case, because of his alleged friendship with the Jagaban, which could have been a reason for bias in his ruling then.

The Court of Appeal in 2012 had dismissed Oni's case, saying he should have raised his objections long before judgement was delivered. Now the Supreme Court this morning , Friday, May 31, 2013 has also ruled against Segun Oni and thereby giving Kayode Fayemi the victory. 

So now that the case has finally been rested, Governor Fayemi can now breathe a sigh of relief and hit the ground running to deliver to his people, the much needed dividend of democracy, no more case hanging over his head.

WHO IS THE NEXT GOVERNOR OF LAGOS?

Many names are been bandied around already though the election that would chose who to replace the incumbent is still far off. Many are of the opinion that the choice of who to replace the current action Governor lies solely with the Asiwaju of Lagos, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu. But our findings shows that it might not be that easy. 


Already as we speak, much politicking is already ongoing in the background, so as to position those who feel they deserve to be the next to vie for the post. But as much as the party in power in Lagos is planning ahead for the next election. The main opposition party is not resting in their bid also to wrest Lagos away from the party on the throne right now. 
 

MUIZ BANIRE

Many names have cropped up in recent times, some of those we have heard about are the likes of former Commissioner for Environment and a top Chieftain of the ACN, in the person of Alhaji Muiz Banire, also on that list is Senator Ganiyu Solomon, a close ally of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, another is Obafemi Hamzat, the current Commissioner for Works in the administration of His excellency, Babatunde Raji Fashola, another also is Mr. Tunde Fowler, the current Tax boss in Lagos, he is the boss of the Lagos State Internal Revenue, another prominent name that has cropped up is that of the Permanent Secretary, Lands in Lagos State, Barrister Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who is the youngest amongst all the names being mentioned, another name we have heard in passing is that of another Commissioner in the present administration, in the person of Gbolahan Lawal. Mr. Lawal used to be the ADC to Asiwaju before and his lot has grown ever since then. One other name that used to be more prominent before was that of the current Speaker of the house in Lagos State, in the person of Honourable Adeyemi Ikuforiji, but that name has gone to the back-burner since the scandal on the mismanagement of a colossal N7 billion. With many of these prominent names coming up daily, many do not know where the pendulum would swing in the case of the Asiwaju, who many believes holds the aces. And just like the Asiwaju did before in his choice of BRF, he might go ahead to surprise everyone again, by totally overlooking all those jostling for the post presently. 

But one very influential person many might be overlooking right now, but whose support might be very important for whoever should emerge to run for the election as the boss of Lagos in the next election, is the current incumbent. As much as people might not be looking his way, his say would be of utmost importance.  Also ready to spring a major surprise as long as they put their house in order is the PDP, but their surprise would depend on them choosing a fantastic personality to represent them.  

Some are of the opinion that ACN or would it be APC then, might not have it so easy this time around ooo. This might be because of some actions taken by this current Government that some might not have liked.




Time would tell anyway. And election time would soon be here. So lets wait and see.

PDP BIGWIG BURUJI KASHAMU EXPELLED FROM THE PARTY

Moneybag owner of the Best Western Hotel, in front of the bar-beach, Victoria Island, Lagos, Buruji Kashamu, who is also a political big wig & financier in Ogun State has been expelled by the PDP in the State.

The expulsion is a climax of all the in-fighting that has been on going between the different factions of the party in Ogun State for a while now. The party in a paid advertisement in a Sunday paper recently, in the communique signed by Bidemi Osunbiyi, the state publicity of the PDP, said ''The Peoples Democratic Party,  Ogun State chapter has expelled Prince Buruji Kashamu from the Ijebu-North LG from the party. 

This is in line with the party's constitution, section 58(1) b, f, j,k & l.  He wasn't the only one expelled. 

So what that means is that all the investments of several years in the party has gone down the drain.
